HD/4K Video Camera Traps

Our camera trap sensors can be used to start and stop video recording on some models of Canon, Nikon and Sony cameras. This makes it possible to shoot high-quality HD or 4k video camera trap footage. All you need to get started is one of our Camera Trap Sensors and a connecting cable for your camera.

Canon

Setting up a Canon DSLR video camera trap is possible with the Magic Lantern firmware. It is necessary to activate the Magic Lantern feature that enables video recording to start and stop with a half-press of the shutter button. This is enabled via the “REC key” setting in the “Movie” menu of Magic Lantern. Not all version of Magic Lantern have this feature so it is best to check first.

Nikon

Setting up a Nikon DSLR video camera trap is possible on cameras that allow the shutter button to be configured to start and stop video recording. To activate this feature, navigate to the “Custom Setting Menu” > “g Movie” > “g4 Assign shutter button” and change the setting from “Take photos” to “Record movies”. Not all Nikon cameras have this feature so it is best to check first.

Sony

Setting up a Sony Interchangeable Lens camera trap is possible using our Sony “Multi Cable”. This can be used to start and stop video recording on cameras with the Multi Terminal input socket, such as the Sony A7, A7II, A7S, A7R, A5000, A6000 etc.

Lighting

If you need to sync an artificial light source with the video recording then our new Lighting controller can help!
